"Pure and Simple Devotion...."

My spiritual walk has undergone more changes in the past few years that it has in all my previous 30 years.
My dip into the ocean of the “Dark Night of the Soul” stripped me of everything I believed and now here on the other side God is rebuilding my faith. It was like He took me down to the very foundations.
About 6 months ago I was down to “there is a God”. And I was stuck. “So, there is a God. What do I do from here?” I thought.
From all fronts I kept hearing “let nothing distract you from a pure and simple devotion to Christ.” That was disturbing. (even more disturbing was Truman telling me "you are being distracted from pure and simple devotion to Christ. I knew I was deep trouble then!!)
So I begin to wonder if all that I was trying to do to find God was keeping me from Him. And what exactly then was “pure and simple devotion?”

And that is the journey I am presently on. The discovery of “pure and simple devotion.” I want to be deeply in love with Jesus. I don’t want to be striving to get everything “right”. I want a gentle but intense faith that is worth dying for. And all I know is where to begin. With Jesus. Connecting with Him in prayer and obedience. Which leads me back to the “ancient paths” of the monks and mystics. Prayer, fasting and the Word. And if you throw in Celtic Spirituality, the common elements of everyday life and relationship. I guess it really doesn’t get more simple that that!!

So….that is the path I am walking. To find Jesus. To find Him through ceaseless prayer in all it’s forms. To find Him through His revealed Word. To find Him through fasting. To find Him in nature and the common everyday occurrences of life and encounters with others.

I’m realizing that spirituality really is a journey, not a destination. And Union is also something that I am ever growing in…it is not a place to “arrive at”.

May we all find joy in the journey....! (Amen, alleluya, gloria a Dios.) :)
